Radiator Drain Cock rebuild kits...

Where can I get a rebuild kit, if they even make one, for the A-8115 Radiator Drain Cock?

All it would consist of is 1 Brass cotter key, 1 Steel spring, and 2 steel washers.

Thanks.

May have to make up one myself.

Steve, You may want to contact the folks at Restoration Supply Company in Escondido, CA (www.restorationstuff.com) (Phone: 1-800-306-7008 ).

Cheers,

Thanks Alden but I have their catalog and they do not sell brass cotterkeys that I can see.

Steve here is a online source for Brass cotter pins, not sure what size you need but they have a pretty good selection with the following Diameter 1/16", 5/64", 3/32", 7/64", 1/8", 5/32", 3/16", 1/4"

McMaster has down to 1/16, graineger has one at 3/64 diameter
Also don't forget to get some gas cock grease so it moves smoothly and easy ---- when I rebuilt the fuel shutoff the kit came with some and both valves still move smoothly after 45 years

Is there a process of 'lapping' the valve ? I have a nice old one I rebuilt, but it weeps a bit. Anybody have suggestions for that?

Thanks,
Stew

I've heard of those valves being lapped using toothpaste for an abrasive.
If you do a google search for toothpaste abrasiveness you'll see that toothpastes vary a lot.

I don't think anybody makes them, but they should. There are a good amount of petcocks and fuel valves that could be saved. I have seen people with buckets of both who just throw them away and buy repros.

Use 1000grit or greater lapping compound. Go on line and search for fine lapping compound. These types of compounds are used for lapping metals and are capable of producing micron type finishes. Toothpaste contains organic abrasives such as corn powder which breakdown very rapidly. Toothpaste will polish but not remove the amount of material needed to get a mating surface to surface contact.
