Windshield project Trying to remove my front windshield to have the new glass installed I treated the square nuts holding the main hinge with pen. oil (a couple of times in two days)- the original nut will not brake loss. Now on top of this situation the screw heads got open with this fussing and now the screw driver end will not hold. I tried to reach-in with my grinder - NG. I tried to drill the screw head - NG. They must be S S, the bit will not even start.
I appreciate suggestions and help with this matter. |
Re: Windshield project With the windshield open is there room to hold a drill. Might have to drill em out.

Re: Windshield project With the windshield off the car apply heat to the screw with a propane torch then apply some penetrating oil while the screw is still hot. Let it cool completely and add more penetrating oul. Let it sit a day. Time is your friend... If no go, repeat.
You could then use a small pointed drift and hammer to tap te screw slot counter clockwise. It worked for me. Of course I ended up re-painting the frame and installed new rubber mouldingd.I would not drill them as you could damage the threads in the frame. |
Re: Windshield project I just came home and saw a couple of “posts”reply’s on Ford Barn. Looking the situation over with my unbelievable wife.... she said, why don’t you try to slide the existing frame out of the butt hinge. A little penetrating oil, a block of wood and a small / heavy hammer, the whole frame - the broken glass in all slid right out. Now, I will get my new replacement glass in and slide the unit back together. It’s really neat to have a smart - helping wife !

Thought you were trying to remove these screws and that is what I commented on. They can be a bugger to remove from the corners of the frame when installing new glass.
