Fuel / Gas Shut-Off Valve Solution 3 Attachment(s)
After replacing the valve packing in the original valve and going through two reproduction valves I gave up and decided to add an additional shut-off valve. I still wanted the shut-off in the cab and didn't want it to look too out of place. I think this did the trick. 3/8" OD Compression valve cut into the gas line.

Re: Fuel / Gas Shut-Off Valve Solution Good idea. I have been making and selling basically the same thing for a few years now. The difference is I use a stainless steel valve. The brass valves eroded because of rust/dirt in the tank. I do have one suggestion. Turn the original valve on and remove the valve handle, less confusing.

Re: Fuel / Gas Shut-Off Valve Solution You're right. Thanks for the tip. Valve is Anderson Fittings Part No. 46950 if anyone was interested.

Re: Fuel / Gas Shut-Off Valve Solution Just an FYI, if you are going thru that many original-style valves, then you will likely have the same issue with this valve. The root issue is you have sediment in the tank that is scoring the inside of the tapered valve. Once the stem has been damaged, the fuel weeps along the scored areas and leaks. Correct the issue that is damaging the valve and then be done with it.
I am in the process of having a special reamer made to to remove the scoring in the housing, and then will have a new oversized stem made that will fit the original housing. That way, it allows a way to restore original housings for those who wish to use aesthetically correct shut-off valves. |
Re: Fuel / Gas Shut-Off Valve Solution Please install a pencil filter to inhibit shutoff valve damage from rust particles.

Re: Fuel / Gas Shut-Off Valve Solution good idea.
and i like the above idea of a filter just before that valve. |
Re: Fuel / Gas Shut-Off Valve Solution Pencil filter was installed on original valve. I installed a new pencil filter on the new valve that was installed. From what I can tell the tank seems pretty clean but I would like to fully flush the tank one day. For now this keeps the wife from complaining about the smell of gasoline in the house.

Re: Fuel / Gas Shut-Off Valve Solution I installed a ball valve a while back. No problems since.
