1930 Model A engine

First time on this site for me.

My 1930 engine has a cracked block on the side of the engine below the valve valley or chamber. It had a weld repair done many years ago by an earlier owner which I ground smooth and did my own dye-check inspection. Found many cracks in the thin section which I chose not to attempt a weld or brazing repair even though I am experienced in both methods. Thin, old cast iron likes to crack even when being repaired, so I punted and chose to use high temp epoxy and a plate patch over the affected area. What did I have to lose and what could go wrong? Then I discovered the babbit on the rear main bearing was broken and a total loss. I'm looking for an engine rebuilder in the Sacramento area who might be able to help me rebuild this engine with either insert bearings or babbit. Any suggestions?

Regards, Steve Morris.

Maybe Turlock Machine, I have no experience with them.

If the block needs work anyways, I would say find another one without cracks.

Steve, too bad you’re far away. I have a Diamond A block that needs bored and inserts. I’ll probably never use it.
