aftermarket oil filter kit

so after having the pan off for the first time ever, and seeing all the crap in the bottom, I'm thinking about adding one of those oil filter kits my question is, are they kinda all the same? some better than others??

I am with Jim. I have had one of these since 2000 on my Phaeton. 90,000+ miles and the engine is still going strong.
Good Day!

I used one of those but the copper tube didn't fit like it was supposed to, I fabricated a tube that would fit using the supplied fittings and the filter seems to work fine. Next time I do an oil & filter change I'm gonna paint the filter flat black before I install it.

Re: aftermarket oil filter kit

I have used the filter that screws on to the valve cover on 3 of my cars but I have a spare engine on a stand on which the filter is mounhted non a bracket beside the motor. Oil is taken from the side of the block just above the oil pump and returned to the timing gear cover. Not sure I like that one as much and I don't know what filter should be on it. For simplicity, it would be good if I were able to use the same one as the others. (Z9)

It depends on the base that was used, a lot use the same filter as you're using on the other A's, Fram PH8A, WIX51515 or equivalent.
Try one of the filters from your other cars, it might just fit.

The Z9 fits the base OK but there is more to selectiong the right filter than that. For simplicity, I think I'll run with the Z9. I'll be able to do a bulk buy deal, too!:)

Apart from the minor deatil as to where the filter is mounted, that sounds like my setup. His observations are comforting. I will continue using it and drive on. Thanks, Katy.
