64 Galaxie paint color Way back when I owned a 64 Galaxie 500 White exterior and black interior. Right now I am building a 64 Galaxie model and I started looking around to find out what the color the exterior was called. I found several places online that said the white color for that year was Wimbledon White. The problem is that when I Google 64 Ford Galaxie 500 Wimbledon White it many of the phots show cars that look more cream or light yellow than white. As I remember the car that I owned, it was more white than cream or light yellow.
I even purchased a can of touch up spray paint that was Wimbledon White and it looks more like a cream color! Is there another white color in that year? |
Re: 64 Galaxie paint color According to the automotivetouchup web site there were e whites in 64. Wimbledon White-9A, M, M1619A, Pace Car White-9E, C, M1525A, YG and Colonial White-E, M30J524. They do not break it down by model so who knows which models had which color.

Re: 64 Galaxie paint color Colonial & Wimbledon are real close to one another , tough to tell apart ! They are a creamy/off white . I had the Colonial on a ' 57 Fairlane . I believe sometime in the '60's it was called Wimbledon . A lot of '64 Fairlane Thunderbolts were Wimbledon White .
Testors Corp. makes a Ford Wimbledon White for plastic models . It should not be too hard to find if you have a good hobby shop in your area , or try online . - F F |
Re: 64 Galaxie paint color Wimbledon White is an off white color. A very light cream, remember it dries a little lighter then when it is still wet. Most common was the "M" code.

Re: 64 Galaxie paint color I had a 64 T-Bird that was Wimbledon white. It is not bright white but I think they were going for the ivory white color at the time. The only other close color was a super light yellow.

I realize that it is next to impossible to gauge colors from photos or from pix on the web, but as I remember the 64 Galaxie that I owned was more white than ivory. Of course that was 53 years ago. Like I mentioned above, I did buy a can of Wimbledon White and my first thought was it is not the correct color.
If you go to https://www.google.com/search?q=1964...4pFp2FM:&vet=1 You will see what I mean about the confusion with white colors. Thanks to all that have replied. |
Re: 64 Galaxie paint color That can of Dupli-Color Wimbledon White looks right to me ! - F F

Even though this photo on line says it is Wim White, it looks more white than ivory.

Re: 64 Galaxie paint color Look at Tamiya TS-7, racing white. I used that on a vintage '62 Pontiac model I did a few years back. Experiment with the primer color, it has an impact on the top coat. I used the Tamiya white primer under mine.
