Re: 35 Ford cpe running boards

Beware,

Most non rubber covered repro board are not formed correctly and are straight from the front to the back. There should be a shallow arch front to back matching the line of the bottom of the body.

In addition a board designed to be smooth and painted will be oversized to add the thickness of the rubber to the exterior of the board... A rubber cover will not fit one of these.

Drake is the manufacturer of the rubber covered boards, and they are quite nice. They have also indicated they are committed to making additional runs from time to time. Your best course is to be patient and prepared to pay the big$$$.

If you are going to do a smooth, painted board then fiberglass should be an option. Note the key concerns of the proper arch and proper oversize.

Another option is to recover the originals

There used to be a fellow in Georgia (?) who recovered '35-'36 running boards (among others) and perhaps still does. While I wasn't a customer, I understand that the results were outstanding. Someone herein will likely recall his name and contact information.

P.S. The boards of a '35 coupe are the same as all the rest of those on '35-'36 North American-built passenger cars.

Dave, the guy in Georgia was Hunley Acuff. I believe he closed down his business.

Did you call C and G Parts, or All Ford Parts in Campbell, Ca.? Call as many vendors as you can find as someone may have a pair in stock

Where are you located? I have one original running board.

Re: 35 Ford cpe running boards

The reason I need the running boards Drake $285, Mac $285 plain stock, not the covered ones $1200 it will make my 35 F 3w cpe complete and I have to put the body back on and finish a few other things and then it goes up for sale. V8ER, thanks for your reply I wish you had the pair. I live 1hr north of Hershey in NE Pa. Thanks Tom

The '35 Galaxy is probably a mate to his 1935 Ford Comet.

I think Ryan must have pulled his initial post and any posts to other threads.
