Manifold Replacement? My exhaust manifolds on my 8Ba are cracked and in bad shape. Are they known for breaking upon removal or do I have a chance at getting these out with minimal problems? Anyone have a suggestion? Thanks. Luke

Re: Manifold Replacement? Find a replacement before you try taking the old ones off. Probably better than trying to weld yours.

Re: Manifold Replacement? Im not going to repair them, I bought a replacement set last year already, just wondering how hard they come out.

Re: Manifold Replacement? Mustang8:
If your new manifolds don't work out post a picture of originals and I will look in the shed. I see your in Wisconsin come pick up a set, free to good home. Dave/Green Bay |
Re: Manifold Replacement? You can be assured that the bolts will be a bugger to get out but because you are going to toss the old ones, you can break them apart to get at those stubborn bolts if needed.

Re: Manifold Replacement? Im just hesitant to try and take the bolts out. Thanks for the offer!

Re: Manifold Replacement? Exhaust bolts can be the hardest bolts to remove on an engine.

Re: Manifold Replacement? If you break off a bolt, don't be surprised. They go thru many, many heat and cool cycles which anneals them and makes them soft. We see a lot of them at our machine shop. if not enough sticks out to use a vice grips on it, we weld a nut to the stub. The heat of the welding helps loosen it up. You don't have to pull the motor.

Re: Manifold Replacement? Use lots of 50/50 mix over a few days make sure you ude a 6point socket, you might have to make one to fit.

Re: Manifold Replacement? I seldom have had a problem with exhaust manifold bolts. You've got a better than average chance of getting them out without breaking one.

Re: Manifold Replacement? Huh sounds pretty promising! Probably give it a shot after the Iola Old Car show swap meet this weekend.

Re: Manifold Replacement? And when you put on the new set, use brass nuts; At a minimum they will be easy to turn off (with a little heat) and not break the studs.

Re: Manifold Replacement? I recently has some lawnmower blades that wouldn't come off with my impact wrench. I put some 50/50 on it waited 10 minutes and all 3 came right off. I wouldn't believe it if I didn't see it.
