Wood For My 1934 Ford Project
 

I need some replacement wood for my 1934 Ford Roadster project. I keep seeing Brads Woodshop mentioned over and over again as the place to go to to get quality wood parts and excellent reliable service. But I have called him many times and no one picks up and he does not return my calls. I know I have the right number because his answering machine lets me know I have called him. How come everyone else is able to purchase from him with quick turn around and quality service but I can't. Any comments or help would be greatly appreciated.

a lot of the smaller shops are working, not dilly dallying on the phone! try an email see if that gets any action

Hi Bill, I don't know what is going on with Brad and his wood products. I live in Friday Harbor part of the year and and with him basically next door I have bought from him for a 34 5 window restoration I have going on. I have been to his house, shop, and warehouse and there is zero evidence of any activity. No cars, nothing. Now this was earlier in the year and at that time one of the local car guys thought he may be in California part of the year. I hope he has not closed his operation. His products were the best.

From a guy in South Mt Vernon Wa, I heard his business was for sale. The guy was telling me I should buy his business with the patterns and tooling etc since I live on Orcas Island, the next ferry stop, and have woodworking/ford experience. I just couldn't imagine it would pay for a 67 year old guy to drop the waterfront house cabinet/furniture business to ship roof bows, cab wood etc to guys fixing old fords. Looking into it I never saw anything but the finest feedback for his shop on Lopez Island.

Hey Gary, I think you should pick it up. You have the space, skill and expertise and making wood parts for old Fords has got to be more fun than dealing with cranky old housewives who bitch that the woodgrain of a beautiful table you just delivered doesn't match that of aunt Clara's hutch. Besides, at only 67 you have a whole career ahead of you! I'll bet most of the guys on the barn (including me) are way north of 67. Maybe we should start a thread on that.

Brad is best contacted by email, give him 2-5 days to respond as he does not have cell or internet service at his house or shop. He picks up messages when he goes into town. He takes an extended vacation from mid fall until early spring. He often has stock available when on vacation and has someone fill any orders.

I certainly hope that's not the case as I've been procrastinating on ordering some wood that I believe he's the only one that reproduces. :(
