V8-60 waterpumps identification

A friend has some NOS waterpumps on offer, but how do I identify which type I have? Are there external differences? By front cover design or part no? Year of engine? Don't want to pull a pump off.

There is a difference I believe the slotted nut is a different size. I can check tonight. I have a bunch of NOS - rebuilt - used water pumps & 60 parts in general.
Cheers
Tony

Re: V8-60 waterpumps identification

On a 60hp engine, the water pumps "screws" into both sides of the timing cover. The early pumps are tapered on the sides were they seal in the cover. The latter pumps are "straight" sided and seal on a thin metal/gasket. The timing cover determine which pump to use. The change in timing covers was made early in production of the 60hp.

Re: V8-60 waterpumps identification

Early 37 were tapered. Late 37 thru 40 were straight. Ray

My motor was installed July 1,1937. Could be either?

Re: V8-60 waterpumps identification

If you can see a gasket, it is the straight style, If not then it is tapered. Ray

Re: V8-60 waterpumps identification

Tapered has a floating notched nut that holds assembly in timing cover. The notches are on outer flange. Flat style whole assembly screws in & the notches for wrench are in from outer flange. No notches on outer flange. Hope this helps. Sorry can’t get pics to load with new I phone.

Between V8coopman's photos and Tony's description, I reckon I have the taper style. Thanks for your help.

I would agree Jembo I also emailed pics to DD so possibly he can add them. I have NOS of either style if your friends pumps are wrong.
Cheers

KiWinUS,

Hi,

I have the tapered type water pumps V8 60 and looking for a rebuild kit, someone to rebuild them or reasonably priced replacements. You mention you had both styles. Do you still have stock? Or kits?

Thanks a ton!
Lee
