Main bearing ID I have a set of main bearings in my box, they are in a Ford packet ,labeled 68-6333-N .020.
BUT they have a thick shell and are 2.710 OD, Not the 2.570 they should be.they are marked Ford USA N on the bearings. Can any one let me know what they fit. Lawrie |
Re: Main bearing ID According to my Canadian Fast Moving Parts Catalogue, 68 6333N denotes front/centre mains, .020" u/s on crank, 2.670/2.671 main bearing bore.
However, 68 6333X denotes .020 u/s on crank, 2.585/2.586 -.[015 O/S] main bearing bore. This however is, I believe, a misprint and should read 2.685"/2,686". Not much use to you eh? |
Re: Main bearing ID Brian my book said the same,
These have FORD USA on the shells and N but they are in a nice FORD box with the cardboard frame in and each bearing sitting in its own little groove, I was just curious to know what they are, How have you been, I,m busy ,three engines in the shop and two diffs, lucky all the engines are 35 and 36.,nice. Re: Main bearing ID Hi Lawie. I think those bearings are made during the War, the big one, you could not get and needed a crank somewhere around 40-41 you could usually find an early small crank and use those thick bearings. I have a a set of them I,ve had for years. Walt

Re: Main bearing ID For using a 21stud crank in a 59A type block--- look in the green book
|
Re: Main bearing ID ON further measuring ,and reading the green bible properly,I find they ARE for fitting a 2.399 dia main crank into the later block, what threw me was they were 2.710 od,well thats what I thought,on measuring the thickness ,I find they are a little bit sprung and are in fact ,2.670 dia.
Brian Walt and Kurt were correct. Thanks Lawrie |
Re: Main bearing ID Did some of the 35s come with crank bearings? From what I have been reading they were pour bearings I'm very new to. This and just looking for all,the information I can get as I have purchased a 35 fordor humpback

Re: Main bearing ID Up to mid 36 was babbit mains,

Re: Main bearing ID The production of insert (LB) engines began in late 1935 for introduction in the 1936 model year, October 1935. Both insert and babbitt engines were used throughout 1936.
The belief that LB engines were introduced mid-year is so wide-spread that it is repeated on the internet much more frequently than the correct introduction date. The Early Ford V8 as Henry Built It, Francis and DeAngelis, Page 21. |
