Do you have a 2100 Holley 3 bolt two barrel or a real '53 Mercury 1901 Holley 4 bolt teapot two barrel carb ? Best price and quality for the 1901 kit I've found is a Daytona kit through seller rburchfield on EBAY.

Macs- Sku 49-49375-1, Alt # 64-49375. For 52 and 53 Mercury full size.

It would be informative to know what carb and manifold are on the car. Someone may have replaced them with a Ford unit in the past since he is asking about a 2100. A car of that apparent quality deserves to have an original unit reinstalled.

I stand corrected. The carb is bolted to the manifold with 4 bolts. I assume it's this "teapot carb" I've been hearing about. It does look a little like one. :) Two barrel.

I believe "scicala" in post 2 is an expert in rebuilding these carbs. I believe that he's just being modest. Unless you are experienced with these, you would do well to have him rebuild your carburetor.

I had thought about it, but I don't have the experience. The car is running a lot better since actually "running it" it, but it hesitates a bit when you give it a rev. If it's the accelerator pump, I have a spare but no gaskets to replace any if I have my shop (good guys with old cars) see what's causing the hesitation. If they have to replace the pump they will need some gaskets and why I'm asking where can I get a set? So......?

Daytona Carb Parts. Just yesterday I called, said I need a kit for a 53 Hudson Hornet with a Carter WGD. Without any hesitation, he says, "Oh yes, that'll be our 709 kit."

Don,

The stock carb on the 53 Merc was this: the 1901 Holly. Here is the service manual for your files:

You can get a rebuilt kit at : Kanter Auto Products

https://www.kanter.com/productdetail...Router=Catalog

Daytona is also a good source.

Look up all of the Ford Barn posts on the carb. Allot of good reading, you might want to start with this one:

I had a friend with a '53 Merc, and he had the same problem. You will be happy to hear that a new accelerator pump fixed the problem.

Re: Who carries a 1953 Mercury carb rebuild kit?

I'm here if I can help. It's easy to see if the accel pump is up to snuff on a 1901 teapot Holley two barrel. It should give a squirt out of the two small brass nozzles coming out of the bottom of the bowl with the slightest movement of the throttle, and are aimed at an angle towards the choke plates. If not, that is more than likely the issue as long as you're sure the ignition timing is set correctly and has a strong blue spark, and that the advance is working properly.

When I called for a kit for Ford carb, the lady said something to the effect of, “I’m on my way to the ladies room, I grab the kit and drop by the mail room. It’ll be on its way today”. That’s service!!!......Mark

When I called, the man himself answered. We talked a while about riding motorcycles around Arkansaw.

I got the kit for my 52 "teapot" through Mike's Carburetor shop". They have a youtube channel with videos on the kits and installation. Now I just have to get busy and do the actual install on mine. I'm still driving it with the hesitation off idle.
