rumble seat step plate original?

I have been stripping a lot of paint off my step plate. The last layer after red, black, yellow, is sort of grey.

For judging how were these step plates originally? shiny aluminum? and if so how do I make it look good as mine are really dull looking like pot metal after all the years and stripping chemicals?

Thanks

I shined up the aluminum trim on my 65 VW bus with 0000 wool. That might get you started. I don’t know what the original finish on the Model A step plates looked like, but most have seen look like dull aluminum, not shiny. The Judging Standards might tell you the proper finish.

My 1930 Roadster came with step plates painted black. I stripped the paint off and was surprised that they were steel.
