tea pot carb Hi, I purchased a new carb kit for a teapot carburetor. The new kits from Mac's come with a flat needle and seat. After replacing the needle and seat, gasgets and jets, it won't start. It just turns over and will not fire. sprayed some carb cleaner in to give it a boost, nothing. I do have spark at the points. Puzzled.

Re: tea pot carb Is the float bowl filling up?
And if it is then is there fuel being provided when the accelerator pump is activated? I would use ether not carb cleaner to assist fuel supply. ( or gasoline) |
Re: tea pot carb Yes, the float bowl is filling up, and when the accelerator is pressed gas is being squirted into each barrel.

Re: tea pot carb Just because there is a spark at the points, doesn't mean there is a spark at the plug in the cylinder. Has the rotor been replaced ? If so, did you compare it to the old one ?
Need to check for spark at the plug. The carburetor is easy to blame for almost any running problem. Your problem sure sounds like ignition. Sal |
Re: tea pot carb The term teapot is vague. Is it a Holley 1901 2V carb or a 4000 4V carb? I call them the towering inferno. I know it's not an 885 if you can see down into a venturi. Some kits for these are better than others. It pays to get a good one.
You have to have spark, air, fuel, and some compression doesn't hurt. If it has a properly timed spark at the plugs and fuel spray from the accelerator pump then it should fire. If it has an internal leak somewhere then it will flood and make the mixture overly rich as well as crud up the spark plugs. |
