Green gas
 

I had my gas tank cleaned and sealed, so I was told. I know nothing of this process. Hooked everything up and the carb would start with what gas was in the bowl then die. I disconnected the line from the carb and plenty of fuel was coming from the electric fuel pump, but the gas that came out was green, like gator aid, not thick.
Never seen green gas before. Have to start taking the tank and carb apart tomorrow. Want to see if all the gas in the tank is green and check out the carb.
Wondering if the sealant screwed everything up

Never seen anything like that, and it's not even St Patrick's Day.
What kind (Brand) of sealer did you use?

I would talk to the guy that did the work and ask. I had a tank sealed where they cut open the top and clean it then coat it with something. Has worked good for many years.

Gas has tint. Bit green I guess. Had a tank red coated. Gas came out for a while reddish, maybe mauve.


If it runs fine leave it alone. or not

How long did you let it cure before filling with gas? I let mine stand for two weeks.

Aviation gasoline is colored for identification and to aid in verification of contamination. The most common fuel available now is blue color for 100 octane low lead. This fuel basically obsoleted the old 100/130 octane which was colored green. The 115/145 octane stuff was colored purple but all these fuel mixes are hard to get unless a person ordered a very large quantity and that would only be from a batch plant that is capable of supplying all the ingredients. Tetra Ethyl Lead is very closely monitored due to the regulation from the EPA. It's kind of like dynamite or gelignite being closely monitored by the ATF. Log records have to be kept on the use and sales of dangerous materials.

I've seen auto gas in all sorts of colors but green sounds like a mix of several types that just happened to look green after the mix. Cross contamination is also possible. Something blue mixed with something yellow would look green.

May be a reaction to the caustic solution used to clean the inside of tanks. In any case, it is a good idea to pull the tank and thoroughly clean the inside. Denatured alcohol is a good solvent. If it is leftover caustic don't let it attack the whole system, including the pump and carb.
