Pickup rear bumpers

I posted earlier about putting rear bumpers on an open cab pickup. Is there anyone who has done or seen this done that could tell me how the best way to mount the rear brackets to under side of pickup bed. It seems like there should be some kind of cross member between the bottom of bed and brackets on the bumpers.

Re: Pickup rear bumpers

I saw one with a length of 1 inch square stock bolted to the side rails, and running across the back. The bumper arms were made from car arms, but had been extended by welding in a piece to lengthen them far enough out for the right bumper placement. A pair of the longest of the three styles of cross sill brackets that hang the arms from the rear of the body on a car were hung from the square stock.

Yes. I have done it on a 28 RPU and a 30 RPU. See pictures below.
Don't worry about supporting the upright body clamp. I used Roadster dumb irons. The most important thing is to stop the sideways movement, and you can see in the last picture. On the left of the picture is a brace to stop this. Both sides must be braced. Once the brace is bolted tight the whole unit becomes very rigid. I attached a towing hitch and towed trailers for many years with no problems.

Is that filler panel between the aprons just for roadsters or is it used on Ccpu to?

The filler panel between cab and tray is just for Pick-ups only.
