specialty plates and toppers?

I Found a specialty plate that I could put on my car front because law only requires a rear plate. Question is, for seasoned collectors do these type plates and toppers just make a car look too cluttered and crummy? What do you think?

Toppers are cool; many car dealership ones are like history & the dealer is long gone.

I've run many different toppers over the years. Have one now: AAA Hartford CT.

I have the original dealership plate that goes over the trunk "handle"/license plate light assembly on my '51 in a box somewhere. After reading this thread, I'm going to go dig it out and put it back on.

They are very attractive and desirable if they are unique/rare and period correct for the car they're attached to. I had this one on my '37 Fordor.

We like 'em.
The one on my "A" says, "This is my other car".
My wife's says, "I would rather be running the steam engine".

Ken, years ago at Hershey I found a good drivers league pin from 1940, always wanted a plate topper. I am envious!

A copy of the good drivers league topper can be found on e-Bay. It's an excellent reproduction

Year of manufacture plates are great touch.
I have a number of NH toppers I rotate on the back of my Forty and an American flag on the front .

Oregon allows just about any kind of vintage plates also. I found one original 1950 plate. Take it to DMV and they run the number to see if anyone else is using the other plate. If not you are in luck. One time fee of about $100 and good to go.

I have a real Ford Good Drivers League 1940 Topper.
It is almost perfect.
I saw one at 2018 Hershey for $500 and the guy would not budge and it was no t as nice as mine.
I am firm at $300.
I will also include 2 1940 Good Drivers League Pins and a reproduction Good Drivers League membership card.

Re: specialty plates and toppers?

I approve of them when tastefully applied.

Toppers from around these parts are almost impossible to find. They don't exist for Annapolis or Fairfax or even Georgetown... But I think they are cool and I'd love to find one from one of my state's beach towns! Right now I run V-8 club badges on my fancier Phaeton but don't have any toppers on my 'beater' '35.

That seller has some originals and his repos are top notch quality. I got the good drivers league from him and it was the nicest repo I had seen. He does have some cool stuff.
