35 window regulator stud

I'm putting my windows in my 35 Fordor and was confused as to the location to install the window regulator stud. I ran a search and found a picture that showed exactly where its mounted (Below). The question I have is that the mounting hole on the repo glass channel is much smaller than the size of the repo regulator stud (78-702148-K). I can just enlarge the hole but I'm wondering why they are different. Bob

Yes that pictured is the location. Where did you get the stud? 78- is the prefix for 1937. Ford does not list this part for fitting a 35 Ford you want 48-702154, it looks like the one pictured.

Re: 35 window regulator stud

Terry, the stud came from Bob Drake and the label states that it fits 1935-1939. I probably bought it at least 5 years ago. I just checked Drakes website and they still have the part listed. It now states that it fits 1934-1939 car and 1935-1939 pickup.

I'd say the channel is wrong.

The repro channels I had were really poor quality yet the studs from Drake were nice. I'd guess the channels are wrong drill the holes bigger.

The channels look to be well made so it's time to get out the drill. The studs are 1/4 inch and the hole in the channel takes a #8.

FlatheadTed - It's a #8 SAE machine screw. About the size of a #4 metric.

Re: 35 window regulator stud

If I recall correctly there are some Plymouth channels which look, at first glance, identical to some Ford channels. They are not. Use a copy of the 1938 Hardware and Trim book to verify the dimensions are correct.

Drakes studs are good for the 1935-1939 coupe and sedan front doors. The studs on the 1934 are riveted on, not bolted (and the 1934 channel design is used with length differences 1934-48 tudor sedan quarter window). The studs on the 1935-37 pickup are different, and also riveted on. 1938-later pickup did not have the vent feature and did not use studs.

I am looking for these studs for my 36 5w. It seems like everyone is out of stock.
Anyone have any ideas? thanks.

I didn’t see them there I searched all over. Do you know what description I could search at their site?
I’ve got 3 different suggested numbers
32-17684-1 or 78-702148-K or 48-702154
It does appear either will work with slight modifications

Re: 35 window regulator stud

I fooled with putting new channels in my '35 three window for two weeks straight last year. The reproduction channels are pure junk. Mine were made in Brazil and they were not close to being accurate. Beside the length being wrong, the spot welds were junk and they fell apart. It was a nightmare. Try Regulator Roy and see if he has an original set. Also the back window channel is impossible to get. I looked every where for one and finally was able to buy two complete rear roll down window assemblies. I used one and have one left. I'd be willing to sell it if anyone needs it.
