King Pin Inclination Hello again guys,
I am putting together a front axle to replace the slightly bent one under the front of one of my As. I need to check the angle of the king pins with the rods I have made for the purpose. A figure of 7 degrees come to mind but I don't trust my memory these days. Can anybody please confirm? Please note that this is NOT the castor or camber angle of the wheel. |
Re: King Pin Inclination I always remember 7° as the minimum angle for U-joints.

I don't think that is where I got 7 into my head but I do know the figure was difficult to find. |

I'll see if I can dig it up.. |
Re: King Pin Inclination You are correct.
7 Deg. I just finished straightening an axle for one of my cars. Chris W. |
Re: King Pin Inclination Thank you very much for both the info and confirmation that my memory still works - at least sometimes!

I think I'll go with 7 as that's what I remember and has been confirmed. I set it using a 1.4 metre long rod help centred in the king pin hole in the axle and a plumb bob. With the plumb bob hanging from this height, 7 degrees will give an offset at the bottom of 171mm. Easy and accurate! |
