Here is swell way to start out the New Year!
Figuring out 'What is it?'. It says it is for '55 Chevy V8 to Ford OHV V8 (Y Block) type manual trans. That don't look like a Chevy small block pattern to me. Looks more like Chrysler or Ford V8 (Flathead). https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Off...4AAOSwIMlc2Waz Happy New Years! |

50's and early 60's were the heyday of engine swaps. By the 70's these parts were going begging. The factory big engines made swaps useless. There are tons of articles in old hot rod magazines about swapping in the 50's. The reason so many 'undisturbed' 50's Fords and Merc's survive today is because the engine swap ones would get junked. The 'All Ford' ones are around because there were so darn many Fords made. A '54 Ford OHV V8 (Y Block)would lose out to all these engines. Cadillac, Oldsmobile and Buick. Jumping from 239 cubes to 300 and above was the sensible thing to do to get that ole' mobile going! Pontiac was late to the scene.Chevrolet also with their 265 and later 348. Re: Offenhauser Chevy 265/283 To Ford Manual Transmission Adapter I think you nailed it on the Chrysler because of the lip it has on the mounting side. The Chrysler has another part that mounts on the block before the flywheel and this bolts to that. I have a Cragar 402 it sure looks like that one.

It could be 59 series or earlier Ford V8 block to the later 259 series type transmissions used in the 8BA era. It's an oddball for sure. It definitely isn't Chevrolet. They made a lot of stuff back in the day trying to get 4-speeds to fit stuff. The earlier Ford 4-speeds still used the narrow Borg Warner pattern till 66. |

My worst day as a Lincoln 430 guy is better than a Chrysler,Dodge De Soto hemi guy's best day. There seems to be nothing early Hemi anywhere at all. What are these people doing with the stuff? That adapter for sale is a nice piece! New in the original box w/paperwork. Plus 'Make Offer'! That adapter is for 'Classic Fords'. 1919 to @1937 hot rod material.Open engine compartment. Maybe not.'49 Ford and Rebel Without a Cause Merc. Have seen or heard about Hemi's in those. Not '54 and up too much though. |

I do not believe motor side is Chevy judging by the side bolt spacing on the sides. Chevy also has 2 dowels on the side.

Here is pictures of a Chrysler. The lip on the engine side is a give away! It would not bolt up to a block flat. Hey all american boy I have a adapter for a 430 to a early Ford! :D

That number comes up as chevy to 49 and later Ford transmission must be the back half. Like Hurst motor swap mounts. You bought half the kit for engine and other half for chassis and the 2 would fit together.

Re: Offenhauser Chevy 265/283 To Ford Manual Transmission Adapter Sid is correct, this bell required a GM "V8 adaptor plate" from an iron powerglide. a '55-56 pg used a GM23836142 and '57 pg used GM3733293. All 3 years would use a 168 tooth flywheel

When thinking standard trans, a person brain flips right on by the automatic stuff. That seems like a strange way to make an adapter but aftermarket manufacturers always tend to look for the lowest cost options.
Some Chevy guys put them in Fords but most of us Ford guys use a Ford in a Ford. It's a matter of principals with some of us. |
