Lubrication brake/clutch pedal bushing

Hi all

I had my TUDOR 1929 for only 1 year and last year someone else did all the lubrication job as I didn't have time. With all the COVID-19 issue I decided I will do it this year for the first time.

As a Newby, I have a question. Following the Les Andrew's book, when I arrived to the "Brake and Clutch Pedal Bushing" I discover that there isn't any grease fittings.

Is because during the restoration (full body off) replacements used were different or is just that the 1929 Tudors are different ?

Restoration was done in 2005. Sold in 2015 and I bought it in 2019. I can't contact the guy who did the full restoration.

Attaching picture of my car brake/clutch pedal bushing and book picture. I hope i am looking at the correct place.

They were added in May 1930.

I've put grease nipple on mine and in one case, I just drilled through from the top and countersunk the hole so it would hold a drop or two of oil. I just put a little oil in there as part of my service routine. I figure either/or is fine.

On my 31 I did not have grease fittings.

I drilled both of them out, tapped them and installed my own fittings.

Thank you all for your answers and teaching.

I was wondering why I would like to install grease fittings. It has been in that way for the last 91 years and at least for the last 15 years since it was fully disassemble. In those 15 years was driven 12K miles.

Thanks !!!
Daniel

They can still be oiled successfully, I use oil on the bushing edges. Grease just lasts a bit longer.

If you do install grease fittings, look at how and where you would need to be with the grease gun before you install. The nice thing about greasing them is the new grease helps flush the dirt out.

I drilled through and installed the nipples on the under side for easy access, but can never force any grease in! To get the grease in, I need to make a groove inside the female casting, but I don't know how to do that. Anyone got any ideas?

Just use oil until the bushing gets a bit of clearance and then it will take some grease. You did drill all the way through the bushing I assume? If you need to, a dermmel tool could work the inside of the bushing.

Yeah, I drilled all the way through.

That is a good idea lubricating from the top, easy to get to!

Smart move on your part, I'm impressed. Will ask my mechanic to do likewise.
