Stunning. Needs the Allard intake that’s on eBay.

Look like it’s on the “Right” side to me.

.

Anyone notice the 'oddball' rear radius rods? Similar to '35-'36 Ford, but the 'welded-on' forging at the rear is totally unique to anything I have seen.

Is that CABLE brakes on that thing?

Do I understand that the chassis is WOODEN? DD

Very cool - except the generator? ... the generator is not vented or cooled / no fan or cooling slots?

I'm surprised the Allard two carb intake and Finned Allard script heads are not on the engine.

If anyone is interested I have the Allard intake and matching heads available.

Juice brakes on the front, so I think the cables running down the torque tube and out to the wheels must be parking brakes?

Independent suspension on the front as well as a heck of a spring pack!

That little coolant drip needs attending to, it's getting everywhere, and the lower rad hoses look really brittle or something.

I love the independent front suspension using the Ford front spring.

Yup, parking brake would make more sense now. And there's Ford's first attempt at "Twin-I-Beam". The way that is set-up, that spring pack becomes two 'quarter elliptic' springs in function, like the rear of C2 and C3 Corvettes. DD

Re: ‘48 Allard on eBay with a Ford Flathead V8

I like all the quirky little differences on the Allard.

The rear radius arms are Pilot. The rear axle is Pilot. Pilots had mech rear brakes so the cable brakes may be primary. Pilot had an equaliser mechanism pivoting on the boss in the diff side bell. The front axle is pukka made not welded up. Not made by Ford.
Pilot style 21 studder too. I had invoices like that from Nordian services. The old fella (Wally Wheatley) used to send the parts with an invoice and you used to send the money after you got em. Real old school.

Threw me off for a second, thought it was on a ford chassis at first. Good informative read in the description link on the ebay add.

Heresy, but the Cadillac powered Allards had a lot more umph.

I learn something new every day! I had thought all Allards were race cars. Pretty cool street cars too.

If I can find the photos, there was an Allard at the vintage races in Loudon NH several years ago. It was powered by Ardun equipped flathead, and was driven by Zora Arkus Duntov in the '50s at Watkins Glenn. Results, DNF.

This Allard J2 is powered by a Ford 'flathead' V8 engine with ARDUN overhead valve conversion. There is a split axle front end and a DeDion rear setup. This Allard was the first J2 entered in competition and was the factory entry at Silverstone, England on August 1949. The car finished 3rd in class. The roadster was shipped to Zora Arkus-Duntov in New York City and driven by Arkus-Duntov at Watkins Glen, G.P., on September of 1949 and later at Palm beach Shores, Florida on January of 1950.
