Emergency Brake Extention
 

Emergency brake extenders were available back in the day as an after market accessory. I had been looking for one for my 36 Roadster as I thought it would help relieve some stress on my back reaching for the break lever. I did see a few on eBay but they all went for some big bucks. I found this one made for the VW bus. I had to modify the knob for the metric threads and used a piece of leather to help secure the clamp around the lever. It works out great and looks close to the original style. I ended spending around forty bucks and it sure helps save my back. Thought someone else might like the tip.

My back is shot and this looks like a great idea.
This is another post that proves that the Fordbarn is a great asset.

I've had one on my 35 fordor sedan (Avatar) for a couple years now thanks to a fellow Fordbarner from Canada who found one for me at the Carlisle, Pa Swap Meet. I really like having this brake extension because It allows me to set the ebrake tighter, plus makes it much easier to release the brake without having to push the top button down with my thumb. I have some pictures of one in a 35 3w coupe that is very similar to the one in the fordor. Plus a few other pictures showing several different types.
I'm also posting some pictures of one that fits the later '37-'48 style ebrake handle, which my friend in Canada is looking for to put in his car. If anyone knows where we could get one like this, please send me a pm or email.
The last one shown is a mystery to us as to what vehicle it may have been made for, and it's possible that some parts/pieces are missing.

Most of those were universal and fit any car with the floor mounted handbrake.

These cast aluminium Hand Brake Extensions were a popular accessory on 1932-1936 Fords in Australia. The bottom photo shows the unit unassembled. The centre photo shows the clamp around the Hand Brake while the top photo shows it all assembled.
They are a great idea.

Never saw one quite like that, but it looks like it should work well.
I've had one on my avatar '35 fordor for a couple years now and really like having it there. Makes setting and releasing the ebrake much easier. Plus it creates a lot of curious interest. Many folks think it's some type of overdrive system

I have had a Hand brake extension on my 1932 - 3/W for sometime now find it great, I do not have to reach for the handbrake now that I am used to it, creates a bit of interest especially when I went for a warrant of fitness as this is the only time that some one else drives the car.

i made my Hand brake extension out of stainless steel copying the Fulton design to suit the length of travel of the handbrake to the seat, and I made the knob out of a special hard wood.

Knocked this up for nothing. Used an old dog bone, bent up some rod, quick weld and an old eight ball I had, works a treat!

For some reason, I was thinking that you were pretty-much REQUIRED to have RIGHT-hand drive where you are. Am I wrong? I REALLY do like your extension! DD

No not any more, those old rules have long gone so long as you have a [collector] car pre 1989 here, can be left hand drive. We used to have to put decals on saying "left hand drive" and the cars had to be inspected every year, a lot of hoowie!
Anything after '89 it has to conform with Australian Design Rules therefore right hand drive etc etc. My pick up is on a normal license , even legal with no indicators, in fact it past first time over inspection [despite a few minor things wrong] the inspector drove it and was so impressed he passed it no worries.
