Aftermarket 28-29 trim

Has anyone seen this aftermarket (?) piece of trim? It was used on a club members car. It fit perfectly just above the fuel tank rim, ending about 2 inches above the seam.
Or was this a standard trim for one model? It is solid and tapers to a nice rounded end on both sides. I have never see one that I know of. I have seen several trim pieces, but nothing this on a 28-29
Any help in identifying this for me would be helpful.

Without seeing it in person, from the photo it looks like it could be an aftermarket accessory made by one of several different manufacturers for the 1928-'29 Ford-Built cars with the French curve in the cowl sides: tudor sedan, pickups, coupes, and open cars. This was not for (will not fit) either the Murray or Briggs built cars - 4-door sedans and cabriolets. All of the originals and all of the advertizement photos I have seen, have the cowl-band going all the way down to the bottom of the cowl, much like the standard Ford cowl-bands. On the originals, the cowl-lites are generally connected to, or look to be connected to, the cowl-band. Also, the after-market accessory unit has cowl-lites that are noticable smaller than the later stock '29 FORD cowl-lites. So there is a possibility that yours is an amalgam of two seperate items put together to immulate the original accessory unit. Again, without seeing in person, It is difficult for me to tell.

I have been looking for an original set for my car for about 5 years now. They are hard to find. If yours are in good condition and complete, you have a very nice accessory - one I wish I had !

If you look close, this does not contact the cowl lights. Cowl lights in the 28-29 are set back. The standard cowl bands are made of sheet steel and go all the way to the splash apron.
This just comes along the fuel tank. It is about 1 1/4 thick at the top, and tapers to a nice curve ends about 2 inches above the fuel tank seam. The ends are nice taper. It has 3 mounts, one under the center hood, and one that goes under the hood at each end. It is solid and weighs about 4 pounds.
I have never seen one like it, have you?

As Doug suggests, your cowl band [ is it chrome plate?] may have once incorporated cowl lamps with the band extending all the way to the cowl bottom.
That was the way a couple of companies marketed them for using cowl lamps on the coupe pillar models.
Do Ray, Tiffany & Neul marketed this set up but none sold just a top piece like your photo.
The Fordor pictured with Henry & Edsel in Jan. 1928 at NY Auto Show also shows a cowl band but no cowl lamps ; probably made up by Briggs for the Show.

No, ctvpa, I have never seen one like it - which makes me think that it may very well be a composite of parts put together to emulate the style of the original accessory band/lites. Again, with out seeing it, it appears to be a very nice set-up, and a good representation.

I can remember years ago somebody trying to sell on eBay a NOS aftermarket set of cowl band/cowl lights for '28-'29 Model-A's. I think they were asking around $100-$125 for them. At the time it was
to much dough for me. Now I imagine a set like them would go for many,
many hundreds of dollars.:eek::(

Years ago and Ebay seems like an oxymoron to me. But then again, it's almost 20 yrs old.

There was a similar band and lights floating around eBay and then posted here a few weeks ago for a hundred bucks.

I see no link and no photo. Yes I am loged in and see photos in other discussions. This is the second time I have read a discussion that talked about a photo and there was no photo. What are you looking at?

Thank's but many answer's are confusing.
This piece is only a short decretive trim that is solid, and small. This ends above the gas tank seam.
It is not modified, It is not a cowl band, and has never had lights on it.
It is a very quality piece. It is not home made.
Please look carefully at the photo's. It is quite a very attractive art deco.
