I have used several. but the last few years all my classic cars have been insured with Hagerty.

Flyboy1st: I have used Hagerty for 15 years; never a claim, but several of my friends have. Fast, fair and payment of the agreed value with no hassles. I have several high-value automobiles, and the insurance is incredibly reasonable. Even more reasonable on those of lesser value. Strongly recommend.

I used American Collectors for collision and roadside assistance because they partner with USAA, which is where I have all my other auto insurance. What's Hagerty charging?

I use American Modern (through USAA) also. Very happy with them in all respects.

I had my every day vehicles insured with the auto club (AAA). They have a special division dedicated to antiques and I went with them.

I originally went with the Auto Club in 1968 because they were the only company I could find at that time who would insure my restored '57 T-Bird at at a stated value and not the value of a regular vehicle.

I use JC Taylor. they are the largest co out there.


about 70. a yr for full coverage at 10k. No claims, but my father had 2 over a 10 yr period and no problem with payment.

JC TAYLOR,always check on mileage restrictions,I drive my Stude to out of state meets.

The dreaded ins. question pops up often on car threads. I think that for the most part they are all in the same ballpark. I think that what one really needs to do before they sign on the dotted line is talk to the prospective company in person. Ask exactly what they cover and what/if there are mileage and driving restrictions. From what I have read over the years the rates are pretty competitive across the board. My example: I have Grundy, fortunately I have not had to file a claim but I have no complaints. I spoke with a rep on the phone before I signed and felt comfortable. For my car (70's model) they have no driving restrictions, although I cannot use it for daily transportation. I have an agreed value of $30k with an annual premium of just less than $200.

My observations also.

Continental Western Ins. used to advertise in Old Cars Weekly, they cover Midwest cars. Seem pretty reliable.

I have Hagerty at the present, and had Grundy for a number of years. No claims against either one. Both are good and about the same money for the same coverage give or take ten bucks or so a year.

A lot depends on where you live, what kind of garage you have, do you have Home security, sprinkler system, close to a fire hydrant, and on and on. Hard to compare solely on price alone it is different for different folks. Insurance around East St. Louis (murder capital of Illinois) is going to be a lot lot more than some farmer living outside Cambridge, Illinois.

I switched from Grundy to AAA many years ago, due to fewer restrictions on where and how I drive my A. Have been very happy and easy to work with.
