Door handle removal
 

Beside taking out the 2 screws on my 31 coupe, what else do I need to remove the exterior door handle? Do I need to take off the interior door panel? How is that fastened? I need to take both sides off to clean up the tarnish or whatever is on them. The gaskets are very dried out as well and need replacing.

I think you need to remove the screws, then turn the handle a little and pull. I have not done this. but in helping someone else that is what worked for us.

Try turning the handle halfway down (45 degrees) and then pull on the handle. May have to pull hard.

Wiggled and pulled it out on the passenger side and it sounded like a spring or something let loose inside or maybe just the latch springing back.

This very short thread might help. I posted 4 pictures in #2 of my early 29 Tudor, but it should be about the same as your latch. A new set of springs and good lubrication made a world of difference. You'll have to overlook the puke green on the outside, but what you see on the inside is the original Rose Beige.

With the 2 exterior screws removed: put some blue masking tape around the excrucheon to protect the paint before you try removing the handle.
Next push the door latch flush with the door frame, then hold it there while you turn the exterior door handle to full open position (about half way down) and pull outward. Jiggling helps to dislodge the shaft.

I also look down from the open window and snake a piece of baling wire down to the shaft where it enters the latch assy and drip some penetrant(KROIL) onto the junction of the shaft and the latch before I try to remove the handle.
Reverse the procedure to reinstall, then last thing is remove the blue tape.
