1939 ford V8-60 truck 3 speed transmission questions

Pictured is a 1939 ford pickup V9-60 transmission.

Will the later type gears fit in the case without clearance issues like a 48 case? Obviously this one had been out in the weather.

The other question is the odd looking thow out bearing hub ? Is it unique to the V8 60 or swapped into this from something else?

Had one of these a few years ago. Looked like regular gears would go right in. If I remember correctly there were thrust washers at both ends of the cluster gear.

Skid, I put later gears into one of those casings. I didn't try a 29 tooth cluster, though, so not sure if the case has that extra wiggle room at the front. What I can tell you, though, is the height of the clutch release pivot shaft is different so the release fork is (I would imagine) also different. Don't know about the release bearing carrier.

Mart.
