Celebrating the woman at the wheel ?

Beautiful Bertha went to grandma in August 1888.

Actually she took the vehicle of her husband Carl while he took a nap. :eek:

Would not have been a good idea to ask him….
Science back than knew, that the brain of a woman is very small.
Even so (or maybe because of this) she was not feared that her body
might explode being transported on higher speeds.

Instead of asking her husband, she was clever enough to take two of
her sons onto the journey ( 2 strongest sons out of a whole bunch)

She showed up at grandma as (I guess) both sons had to
push the car most of the distance. :cool:

Anyway – This is to be celebrated 125 years later

This festivity is going to happen next weekend on the original route
(both directions).

As not to many cars out of 1888 around (and the original car was destroyed)
they now allow cars up to 1930 to participate.

We are happy to be among the chosen ones and hope that our
Tudor will manage all the way (70miles) to Mannheim (to the starting line).

I will report ... (including the answer to the good question whether the
City-pharmacy in Wiesloch still sells “Ligroin” to refill the tank )

My wife and daughter both drive the model A's nearly as good as I can. The grand daughter is wanting to drive the model A's also, she is only 10. I'm waiting untill she can reach the pedals a little better and she will be driving the model A's also.

Everybody in my family drives an A regardless of gender. My grandmother drove their coupe since it's purchase in '58. My mom drove the same coupe to Fredricksburg earlier this year, and my sister also drove the coupe to Texas Tour in June and got the youngest driver. In the fort worth club, over half of our drivers on tours are women. I'm on the nominating committee for next year's board, and I won't be surprised if we have an all female board.

I will never forget how Amelia Earhart financed her flying lessons, By driving a truck. My father in law owned and drove solid tire trucks and they were really difficult. That girl had a lot of "Moxie" (whatever Moxie was) Flash forward to the 1930s. Grandma (Oma) Dietzold aquired a 1935 Pontiac and my grandfather was dead set against it (Hell, he was dead set against the twentieth century) and wouldn't do anything to maintain it. Grandma had to change the oil and plugs herself. She ran that car up until 1948. If they have grit, women can do anything.
