Need thoughts...what color is this? 4 Attachment(s)
Working on my 1929 Tudor and trying to figure out exactly what color it originally was.
it was repainted some god awful blue at some point in its life, but I found the original color under the carpet which I think should be lower body color. I *think* its Bonnie Grey, however according to the model A Ford Paint and Finish Guide, they ceased using that color in April 1929. This car's serial number (matching frame and engine) indicate an Oct 1929 car. The corresponding upper body color for Bonnie Grey is supposed to be Chelsea Blue which is very greenish per the paint and finish guide. Below are pics of the cross brace, an area I sanded in the lower body and what appears to be OEM upper body colors in areas that I sanded on the upper back and the belt. Can anyone confirm this? Especially since it appears to contradict what is in the paint and finish guide. Thanks! floor cross brace: https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/attach...1&d=1478126453 Here is a section of the lower body I sanded through the blue and some other areas where the blue repaint peeled: https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/attach...1&d=1478126479 Here is the upper back sand through: https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/attach...1&d=1478126479 And the belt https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/attach...1&d=1478126479 |
Re: Need thoughts...what color is this? According to the book, after April 1929 used the following lower/upper color combos:
vagabond green/rock moss green rose beige/seal brown andalusite blue/black mountain brown/thorne brown thorne brown/black none of those make sense with the evidence. |
Re: Need thoughts...what color is this? I bought some original purchase orders from a dealership in New York, and a couple have colors listed that were supposed to have been dropped half a year earlier.

Re: Need thoughts...what color is this? Krze,
Sounds as though you are doing a High Points car, if so, my HAT'S OFF to you! Bill Semioriginal |

Re: Need thoughts...what color is this? Any trace of original paint under the gas tank? If so, polish it a little, and compare to the refinish guide. Found the original color this way on a 29 Tudor that had been brush painted black many times.

Re: Need thoughts...what color is this? Krzwinskie, if you're curious to see what you color combination looks like, there is a 29 Tudor listed on the Austin, Texas craigslist. It has the same combo as yours but doesn't give the name of the colors. Maybe you could contact them to ask if they know the month it was built and if it was original colors.

Re: Need thoughts...what color is this? The body crossmember in the first picture looks like Bonnie Gray. I painted my 29 phaeton Bonnie Gray and it looks the same. The secondary color used with Bonnie Gray is Chelsea Blue and used on the raised areas.

My 29 Tudor is also an April car and the body and belt colors look like vagabond and rock moss green to me. Here are some pictures of mine so you can see what it would look like if you go with those colors.

krzewinskibe, I agree with Rusty in that it looks like Bonnie Gray to me. Here is a picture of my early Feb '29 Tudor in those colors.

Re: Need thoughts...what color is this? Looks like the car was stripped to the bare metal. Then reprayed. Floor part looks like gunmetal ble
