Value of a 1929 Model A Special Coupe driver
 

Hi guys,

I’ve got a 1929 Model A special Coupe with a rumble seat in good shape. Runs and drives like a top.
The values and prices on these vehicles are all over the place and unfortunately I’m in a place where selling this piece of history makes the most sense for me right now...

Would someone be willing to give me a ballpark estimate on the value?

I would venture a first guesstimate at $8,000-12,000. dollars.

Values may vary depending on what part of the country you live, and whether there may be other "special" considerations that might factor in (matching numbers, provenance, etc.). You appear to have a fairly solid car with original components, which in my opinion would tend to enhance its value. The appeal of your car is that little would appear to be required in order to have an overall solid and dependable "tour-ready" car. I live in the southeast, so if your car were in this area, I would estimate a reasonable value to be in the $6,500 - $9,000 range, again, depending on overall driveability and condition. Conversely however, if someone were to take their time and not be in a rush to find a suitable candidate, I would imagine that they might be able to find a nice, older restoration of a similar model for something in the $10,000 - $15,000 range. If a person were looking to your car as a potential restoration project, they could easily expect to incur another $15 - $20K minimum investment before completing a restoration of this car. 8-9000 is a realistic number in the northeast, for a car in your condition.

I would put in Hemmings.

If it is a parade car, and has not had much mechanical maintenance done. Old tires, brakes, shocks or no shocks, front end in need of attention, on and on it goes.

$7,000.00 to $8,000.00 is a guess. Good luck.

Special Coupes didn't come with a rumble seat, so that could be a minus, or a plus, depending on the buyer.

I think what the others here have said sounds reasonable. But, also, look to Ebay closed auctions, where the vehicle actually sold, for additional price guidance. Where are you located?

One of the filters on an eBay search is "completed" and another is "sold". I use these often when trying to get an idea of what things are going for.

The car in question was owned by my uncle before he passed away. Its been quite a few years since I saw the car but then it was an unrestored survivor. Quite low mileage, all original even interior was original and still in nice condition at that time. Don't know whats been done to it in the last 20 years but it was a very nice car and I'm sure it still is. From my memory, which may be spotty, my uncle bought it in the late 70's from an old lady, I think original owner???. I think he paid $2600 for it, Wow! Would be something to find one for that price now. Sat in the shed for years, periodically engine was lubricated and turned over. I would drool over it as a kid and would help occasionally with putting a little oil in the cylinders and turning the engine with the crank. Anyway, would be great to see it again.

My 28-29 special coupe WAS a rumble lid car, converting it to a trunk as we speak. It has the holes on the top of the quarter panel for hand assist, and the curved inner panel in the rear of the trunk.

Those are not hand assist, they are top rests and only Roadsters had them.

This is the style of my coupe, I don't have a roadster. The handles, if not for hand assist, then what are they for?

They are top rests for when the top is down on Roadsters.

I don't know why they were installed on coupes then... Every coupe that has a rumble seat has them, can't find a pic of a trunk coupe with them. They can't be just for conv tops.

Roadster tops fold down and rest on them,when folded. Keeps the top from coming in contact with and destroying the body paint behind the cockpit when the top is down. Many cars with rumble seats now wrongly have had them installed as a handle for entering the rumble area.
