1935 Experimental intake

Saw this listed on EBAY. I am guessing its 1935 because of the prefix in the part number.Seller claims his friend bought it at a special auction at Ford Museum in Dearborn in the 80's.No fuel pump provisions.Kingston Carb.

Pretty unusual carburetor as well.

Re: 1935 Experimental intake

wonder what they did for a fuel pump and why the vac plate under the carb. That set up might be a real bear with vapor lock with what appears to be the feed pipe location at the bottom of the float chamber.............

Strange for sure. Maybe an atempt at fuel economy..?? Thanks for sharing.

Hey Sheldon ....You sure do come-up with some interesting junk from time to time!

I know that YOUR pictured manifold is NOT the one seen in my pictures, but I have to wonder if it MIGHT NOT have had something to do with the Ford program which cast ~TEN Aluminum blocks for experimental aviation use. The time frame sure is right....1935-ish!

Supposedly, this is one of the legendary 10 ALUMINUM Ford blocks.

https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/attac...1&d=1379888691

Below is Ford's "15-P" which flew terribly and never amounted to anything to write home about. But it did have what is a Ford V8 with some very "1935-ish" attributes, and one could easily imagine the block being one of the weight-saving ALUMINUM examples. With YOUR example having no fuel pump provision, it might easily fit in with an "airframe-mounted" fuel pump system. Just a wild-assed possibility for your manifold's original intention. DD

Seem to recall seeing a fire engine years ago that had the carb. set back like that to make room for an oversized generator.
