42 clock So I picked up this lovely 42 Ford clock today for my 47. We're these a wind up clock? It doesn't look like it has anything electrical connected to it. It seems to wind up and the hands move freely, but it doesn't seem to work

Re: 42 clock I believe all 42 clocks were wind up. I know mine is. Cleaned and oiled but can't get to work. never sent away to fix. It would work for 1/2 hr. or so then stop.

Re: 42 clock 1941 and '42 Super DeLuxe Fords were equipped with stem wound clocks. In 1946 the electric clock was an accessory. If you are trying to lubricate your clock you must use "clock oil" and not something like WD-40.

Re: 42 clock I had the same thing with my '41 clock. Took apart, cleaned, oiled etc. Would not work. Sent it to Bob's Speedometer and it has run perfectly for 8 years now.

Re: 42 clock Is there a way to clean the workings without taking the backing plate off? These screws are putting up a fight

Re: 42 clock Got the wind up in my '47 going by cleaning the works with WD-40 and then lubricating with clock oil.....think from Amazon. Believe mine is a 24 hour clock.....so once running with time adjusted, I just leave it 5 o'clock after it runs down. Always 5 o'clock somewhere.....including here!!:D

Re: 42 clock PK, I had a48 Con. like your"s when I was a Senior in High School, wish I still had it ans several other's I've had.

Re: 42 clock Well I got it to work for about three minutes
|
Re: 42 clock That's a good sign. If you can get to the clockworks and you have clock oil, use the needle tip applicator to get to the bearings. Don't over do it and I would bet that over time it will work. I just did a porcelain mantel clock that had not run for 75 years and it's ticking like new and all I did was to oil it.

Re: 42 clock I have the clock in the dash sitting on the dining room table and I hear it ticking and from the looks of it it has been running all night
|
Re: 42 clock I had my 42 Clock cleaned and oiled by a clock guy. Works fine laying on a table, but stops when installed in the dash.

Re: 42 clock Steve, sometimes it's the way the clock is mounted. I had a clock that wouldn't run with the three screws holding it in. When I removed one of the screws, it worked fine. It could be a tweaked housing that might be causing the housing to bind the works. Topher let it run for a day or two on the table and allow it to complete a couple of cycles and you might be go to go.
