A bit high price, but an unmolested 1 1/2 ton Military contract Ford truck. Even the bed seems correct on this one. The early Military W number is on the hood. I posted it on the Military site G-503 also. But my skill with links is lacking. Newc

The dump truck has the military dash but the military lights are missing. I can't see the steering wheel. The puckers on the front fenders where the park lamps would be missing on the military types aren't even there. There are no headlight guards either.

The flat bed truck has bean civilianized and has the civilian type steering wheel plus the park lamps. None of the military lights seem to be there for what is visible. It is set up like a G8T but it has a lot of civilian characteristics so it's hard to tell. It could also be made out of different parts from different vehicles.

I'm sure some of these were used during the building of the ALCAN highway. They might be left overs from that project.

my 41 1 1/2 ton was apparently commandeered by the army for conversion by the army into a fire truck. it has the civilian dash/steering wheel, etc I would also presume the flatbed 42 which has the civilian dash was like wise commandeered and as such had the civilian dash/steering wheel, etc. where as the 42 dump was an army ordered truck and had the military dash, etc.

I've no more room here. I do have a '40 Military G8T that is all Military conversion by Ford, even a blackout driving light that many never got. A few of the 2 wheel drives made it to Egypt and the British, but most stayed Stateside and are fun to own. Everybody has a 'Jeep' and a belly button. Newc

The military dash became standard sometime in 42. Before that, Chevies, Dodges, Ford's, Ford and Willys jeeps had dashes of their own design. Once standardized, the QM didn't have to stock several different dashes (instrument panels) from many different manufacturers. An example, a full-on military 41 1.5 ton 4x4 Chevy had a civilian panel. A 42-45 had the standard round gauges that would work in a jeep or Dodge 3/4 ton, 7 ton 6x6 Ward LaFrance wrecker, etc.

Most contracts were given out in 1942. Those specified many of the items needed for interchangeability. Things were changed for convenience over time so not all are alike but they are close. The War Department put out some contracts before the war so interchangeability took a while to catch up. We gave a lot of those G8T trucks to the Soviet Union along with Studebaker trucks under lend lease and some may have been diverted for the ALCAN & CANOL projects. The ALCAN highway required a lot of all wheel drive vehicles but they used a lot as transports along the sections that were already built to haul fuel, parts, equipment, & groceries.

I'm no military truck expert but I always thought that the WWII Ford big trucks had 6 lugs (like the dumptruck on Craigslist) and not 5 lugs (like the flat bed)?

The largest trucks Ford made in that era were the big twin engine trucks they hauled the B24 carrier trailers down to Fort Worth, Texas with. They made some more conventional types with similar wheel base to the G8T but I'm not sure what the model number of those was. Most were Ford American/LaFrance type fire trucks. Then there were the Sno-Gos for winter runway clearing. There were some Marmon Herrington conversions as well.

The G8T was a 2 1/2 ton and they did have 6 lugs on most of the actual contracted military types. But there are always exceptions to the rule in the military stuff of WWII since they made so damn much of it all.

The little one looks more like a 2GT-86 and it may be a 1 1/2-ton.

The larger trucks may be the GT8A types. Most TMs list the 1 1/2-Ton as the G8T but there was a larger GT8A but it's hard to find information on these old trucks.

If I had the money and space I'd be all over that $3500- dump truck.
