Re: 1956 2X4 INTAKE+AIR CLEANER/Carbs That manifold is the 1956 unit and is much harder to find than the more common 1957 dual quad manifolds. The carbs should be list #1268's if they are the originals.

Re: 1956 2X4 INTAKE+AIR CLEANER/Carbs Thank you Ted. I will check the carb numbers and get some pics up this weekend.

Another Ford Barner (oldmics) may chime in on this one. He has the most knowledge on the '56 set-ups of anyone I know. He has supplied me with some facts and Ford documents related to it. There were two set-ups offered over the counter at Ford and Merc dealers. I'm pretty positive that the only parts shared in the two set ups were the carbs (Holley List 1268's) as Mr. Eaton stated. The Mercury version was called M260, and not sure if the Ford version had a label. Seems like a separate engineering team worked on each kit. (Merc and Ford). I know one of the manifolds used was cast as ECZ-C and made by Edelbrock. I think Edelbrock also put the kits together (with Isky cams). I think they were E-2 cams. Both kits came with cyl. heads, cam, lifters, valve springs, fuel lines, linkage and two individual air cleaners (not one like the 1957 set-up had). Like I said, only the carbs were shared by each kit. even the air cleaners were different. I won't say more, for fear of getting some facts wrong. Maybe Oldmics will comment. I know he has explained it all before. Sal |
Re: 1956 2X4 INTAKE+AIR CLEANER/Carbs Didn't the Merc's use Carters for carbs?
|
Re: 1956 2X4 INTAKE+AIR CLEANER/Carbs Paul, Yes. As far as I know the Mercs used the WCFB Carters.
Timmy's page has some good pictures and info on Manifolds. http://m571.com/yblock/intake.htm |

Carter WCFB's may have been used by certain people, but there is no factory documentation for it. Only documents show the Holley teapot 1268's in those kits for Mercury and Ford. The Carter carb manual also shows no such application for WCFB's, however the Holley manual does list a special carb for the 1956 set-ups. |

Re: 1956 2X4 INTAKE+AIR CLEANER/Carbs That is Grand Rapids Ohio and I am in Ontario Canada. Not the same one and this has an air cleaner too. I took pics today but will upload tomorrow. Not a big fan of Ebay. I have a Barner interested but it is my friends so I will be the piggy in the middle.

Re: 1956 2X4 INTAKE+AIR CLEANER/Carbs OK so why so secret about the listing number?
I'd like to have a chance to bid if it's on ebay. |

Re: 1956 2X4 INTAKE+AIR CLEANER/Carbs That is correct.... It is not on Ebay. This is owned by a non computer friend. And I won't put anything on Ebay that I could sell face to face or to a Barner or HAMBER.
By the way, there is a gentleman wanting to buy this (a Barner) from my friend. I only asked about it originally to find info but I guess if somebody needs it he might sell. |

Re: 1956 2X4 INTAKE+AIR CLEANER/Carbs Sorry to hear the intake has been repaired. The Purolator air cleaner is worth something. The carbs and linkage are not correct, and there are a lot of fittings and pieces missing to handle 56 distributor with dual advance. That is the correct air cleaner and no, there was not an air cleaner on each carb. If you think it is difficult to get a 312 working with a 4000, load-0-matic distributor, and a dual diaphragm, quadruple the problem. The original kit worked on a 3 speed standard, or 3 speed overdrive and not automatic. If you want to put it on an automatic that you will have to rob parts from your 57 Ford kit that would handle automatics. As far as the air cleaner value is concerned, a 1957 Ford passenger nos 2x4 air cleaner sells for $1000.00, so this would be less
