Blow out 1 Attachment(s)
Had a blow out while on my way to a Cruise Night" After changing tire noticed there was a 5/16 Bolt protruding from inside tire. Was wondering if anyone has had a similar experience. The car was a 1947 Ford Convertable with a Lester 600/16 Tube Tire. Was wondering if you think this tire could be repaired? Attached a picture. Thanks.

Re: Blow out Take it to a tire shop. They will inspect it and tell you.

Re: Blow out I doubt they can fix it. a 5/16 bolt leaves a pretty big hole. The age of the tire may also dictate whether it's fixable or not.

Re: Blow out Find an old school tire shop. I don't think that the "chain store shops" will touch it. Chap

Re: Blow out There are patches with plug , has metal covering on the plug to pull it through, sand/buff inside ,prepare like patching tube

Re: Blow out The chain stores will not repair anything over 6 years old. But if it qualifies, Discount Tire will fix it for free.
Probably not a candidate for a plug, but probably could be patched from the inside. |
Re: Blow out That's surprising for sure. Glad it didn't do damage or cause accident and harm.
Will be interesting to see the head of that bolt and size of hole. Be sure to post photo. |
Re: Blow out Thanks for all the interest and advice!
Bob P.S. Happy 4Th of July. |
Re: Blow out Bob, as Kurt mentioned they make special patches for this kind of damage. Some are called "tire boot patches." Very serious damage can be repaired but most retail shops avoid it.
Check Google and eBay for tire boot patch ... with a good tube, you can probably save the tire. Good luck. |
Re: Blow out Hoop:
Great hearing from you! Hope all is well. Thanks for the info. Bob P.S. Timing is everything! Happy 4th. |
Re: Blow out If it can be repaired, I'd use it for a spare, and buy a new one for the road. I wouldn't trust a tire that damaged on the highway.
