New ones are around $100 I believe. So original $125-$150 maybe?

I don't believe either Winfield or Riley ever made side covers, all are newer versions by someone else.

How can a valve cover be improved, other than looks?

With proper design they can strengthen the block the same way a crank girdle does.
A common improvement for vintage circle track engines.

And it is big fun if the owner will go along with it, to machine a name like Caterpillar in the cover.

Hey Pete:),
Do you make aluminum side covers for A/B (flathead and/or OHV style) with name ? If so, script or block writing ??

Hey John,
I go along with the idea/statement of Pete regarding 'strengthening'/thickness of material.
For example, I have a really thick aluminum finned side plate for OHV head use. I think that an old timer (machinist?) did a one off to his liking....and mine too.

Additionally, I'd recommend that , if finned, areas where you would drill/tap for oil fittings....be made flat and clear of any fins made.

One more 'improvement' IMO, would to make a side plate with an oil filter screw on capability. I have one on a B engine and it is really convenient to undo a VERTICAL filter without spilling a drop. Only one I've seen like this one.
