ECH IC7 6 volt coil and 6 volt system
 

So I’ve read to many posts and I’m getting confused.

Stock 6 volt system with crab distributor.

ECH ic7 6 volt coil with 1.2 ohms resistance.

Bypass the resistor under the dash?

Or is that not enough resistance?

Seems like the resistor under the dash is .6 ohms.

And just to be clear, the resistor lowers the amps? Or does it lower the voltage?

Sorry for all the questions, just trying to understand how it all works. And not fry anything :)

I do not have an amp meter for testing.

Probably work fine either way, would depend on how much you drive it. Higher amps will cause a build up on the point quicker than lower amps. But, it takes a while, so depends on how often you drive. Most likely take years!

Voltage, current (amps) and resistance are all related to each other. You can calculate this all out if you want but it really doesn't need to be that complicated. You want around 3 amps in the circuit, but anything between 2 to 4 amps should work fine.

I wondered that too, current pace is under 300 miles a year.

In your case I would run with the resistor in circuit. That way your distributor contacts will last longer. Current draw of coil varies depending weather you test with engine stopped or running. Test current draw with engine at idle and should be at 2 to 3 amps and no more. Regards, Kevin.
