Curing a 1940 Ford Floppy Windshield Wiper Dear Ford Barn,
My 1940 ford Deluxe Coupe has developed an issue with the passenger side windshield wiper. It easily drops below its parked location (angles out from its mount to the outer edge of the windshield) onto the cowl. I can manually re-position the wiper, but eventually it flops back below the windshield to rest on the cowl. Is there an adjustment I can make to the wiper train to keep it in a position parked on the windshield? As always I appreciate the knowledge this group provides. Regards, MrPhat40 |
Re: Curing a 1940 Ford Floppy Windshield Wiper On the underside of the tower, there is a nut that can adjust the slack out of the chain that moves the shaft. (This nut might not be visible until you take the mounting bracket off.) You might try loosening it and pulling it down and retightening it. This assumes you have the arm firmly on the shaft and there is no play between the shaft and the arm. Also check both ends of the long connection between the tower and the motor.
It might just be worn out. |

With the patience of a toothache, I bet you can figure out what to adjust by examining the wiper motor mechanism.
