Brakes - depth

I am trying to figure out the status of my brake shoes. However, I am not sure what the measurement should be on the depth / thickness of the brake shoes. What is the new dimension for a brake shoe and at what thickness/ depth should they be replaced? I have a micrometer to measure them. Do you measure 1 point or multiple points?

Thanks as always

Bob

New lining is about 1/4" thick, no real need to measure. you can tell by looking how much is left. they can be used down to 1/8" or less depending on if their riveted or bonded. the main thing is don't let them get thin enough to hit the rivet heads or the shoe and damage the drum. The brakes are adjustable to take up for wear.

When the lining wears down to just above the rivet heads, change them.

Yep, about 1/32-1/16" above the rivet heads or thickness if bonded at the thinest spot..

The original lining was 3/16 inch thick when new.
