I have been building models since I was seven years old. My first completed model was a Richard Petty Blue Plymouth # 43 in March 1971. I still build models when life's circumstance permits.

I just finished this 1/25 Scale AMT 1936 Ford Roadster last Sunday. Presently I am building two 1/8th Scale 1932 Fords (one a new kit and the other a rebuild of a kit that I had built in 1983).

Here are some photos of the 1936 Ford. Since I shot this photo I have painted the tail light trim and lenses and the rumble seat steps. I actually bought this kit in the 1980s.

Here is an 1/8th Scale Ford Flathead Engine for my 1932 Ford Roadster.

Hey thats nice.....that kit originally came on the market, in 1960 or 61. If i remember corectly, it came with a chopped 3 window top, so you could also, build a coupe........Ed

You are correct--It came with a three window top, un chopped though.

Here is the optional Coupe roof for the 1936 Ford and the soft top for the Roadster. I will not be using them.

Most of the early old car models were Fords, as I recall. I had a 36, a 40, a 49, a Model A and a T. I probably had a 32, as well, but I can't recall. I had more than one A. It's a fun way to begin to learn about cars. I built a Visible V8, too, but that was a Chevy. I liked that hobby because I liked cars. Those I built are still my favorites.

Here is a 1931 Ford Model A Coupe I assembled about 2002.


It is the Monogram 1/24 Scale kit.

Glad to see a thread on The Barn about models ! I have been building for 52 yrs. now .:eek: Here is my 50's style , mild custom '40 Deluxe by AMT .

As popular as the Fords were after the war, I can never find a 46-48 sedan model kit.

funny im just getting around to finishing a 36 ford that I started 20+ years ago,has Pontiac motor ,the top is unchopped but I have the chopped top also

Thanks Walt ! Trust me ....I WISH my '40 Deluxe was real & sitting in my garage , instead of in my display case !!!

tonym I got the same Big Deuce kit in 1982 for my birthday, I still have it un-finished in the basement. I might have to get back to it!

oldford2 I believe Testors had a 1/24 scale 46/47 coupe.

Old Skool, I started to build and paint that 1936 Ford in the late 1980s. I moved out of folks house and into the Love Shack a few years later and the models were stored in the attic at mom's house. Several years ago when she was moving she said come get your stuff. I rescued this 1936 Ford, which was about 80 percent assembled and about 99 percent painted and carefully packed. I also saved an 1/8th Scale Monogram 1932 Ford Roadster that I had built in 1983. It was totally disassembled and the body crushed. I replaced the body and will rebuild it this spring.


Felix37, I saved the old 32 Roadster and my brother recently bought me a new one (and I have two others unbuilt). I am working on the new one right now. Painted the frame yesterday and it looks real good.

I used to build models as a kid, they where very rough. I would like to give it a try knowing what I know now!

Those are some excellent models! :cool: When I was in my early Teens (before girls and real Flatheads got most of my attention) I was really into building model cars, I even built some dioramas to display them in. My younger brother (by 10 years) destroyed all of my models when I was in the Army... I have built a few of the '46 to '48 Ford Convertibles and I'd like to fine a model of a TuDor Sedan from the same years.

Vic, I was able to manage all of it: Girls, Real Cars, Model building, Girls and plus four years of Varsity Wrestling (and all the great social invites that come with being a Varsity Athlete) and I made it okay.

This 1/8th Scale 1932 Ford Five Window Coupe, hand cast by the Late-Great George Zurowski, is a future project.

This 1/24 Scale 1937 Ford Tudor is also a future project. It came out of the box as a custom but I will use 1936 rims/tires/caps to make it a stock 1937.

A small collection of 1/25 Scale Flatheads.

This 1/8th Scale 1948 Ford Flathead engine, a real work of art, and also hand cast by George Zurowski, will go in the 5W Coupe (Full Fendered).
