Brake Adjusters
 

I was dis assembling a set of 35 backing plates today.
Interesting adjusters used in them.
Was there an advantage to using these over the OEM style?

That is an aftermarket floater kit, designed to improve self servo effect of the brakes.

More fodder for conversation.
I bought some brake stuff today it came with a box and instructions for the adjusters (floaters) I first inquired about. Turns out they were offered by BDC Boyle Distributing Corp, Los Angles, Ca as FLOATO BRAKE ENERGIZERS.
More info on the internet if anyone is interested.

Also these were in the box too. I think I found them in the parts books 68-2041.
Are these from 36 brakes?

I have floaters from "Flathead Ted" in Australia in my '32 5 Window and my '35 Phaeton. I am very pleased with them. I don't know why Henry didn't do it this way in the first place. Jim in San Jose.

Yes, those are 36...the links are missing. Actually, Ted's floaters are of very similar concept to those 36 units.
Also, Flathead Ted is from New Zealand, not Aussie....lol

Yes the floaters from Teds are a good product, have them on my Model A and when I remove the hydraulics from my 35 Teds Floaters will be a part of my Ford mechanicals.

I'm using brake energizers/floaters like these on my avatar '35 fordor sedan. If installed correctly, and properly adjusted, these brake floaters work very well IMO. I feel my mechanical brakes, fitted with these floaters work as well as any '39-'48 Ford I've ever driven with their factory hydraulic brakes.

I also have these brake energizers/floaters, as pictured below, that I've removed from stock '37 Ford brake backing plate assemblies. I have never seen these on any '36 Fords that I've worked on, but maybe they started using these in very late '36. These floaters look nearly identical to Flathead Ted's brake floaters that I've installed a couple times in friends '35's.
I'm planning to try these stock '37 floaters in a '35 coupe, and see how they work.

Thought I would comment ,Here's some shots of a Model A kit 32 to 34 brake kit you can see there are a lot more parts to it different than 35/37. Back in 2007 I didn't set out to make floaters for other models but 1934 ,I was trying to improve my brakes on my 34 experimenting with different ways of getting the shoes to move .At the time I had no idea what Ford did or Kurts posted bulletins, if any thing I was inspired by the floater in post number one ,it . The black stamping is a key component for Model A and 34 ,We did a club night where two cars were run on brake rollers ,it worked so well I thought it may be of interest to others in the car hobby so posted it up on the Model A sites ,After a while we realised that some of the parts fitted 35 through 38 interest started .
