39 dlx hood vs 40 std hood interchangeable????
 

Got a situation trying to find a local '40 std hood- found a '39 Dlx reasonable price. Getting a lot of 'advise' on interchangeability of those two. Green book uses different part nos. , but is that just the trim holes?? Ideas?? thanks Newc

Well yes, kinda, sorta.


The 1939 Deluxe / 1940 standard share the same basic stampings. However there are cutouts on the 1939 hood for the front ornaments. The early 1939 uses a different latching system than the late 1939 / 1940 standard, so the inner brace might have to be changed.

And have to fill the holes for the script "Ford" on each side by the grill IF using a 39 Dlx on a 40 Std

The shape were the hood meets the grill is supposed to be different so a 39 hood doesn't match up right with a 40 std grill and vise versa (so i am told) but i got a really rough 39 deluxe grill i wanted to try and work on a 40 pickup.

A friend of mine put a '39 grille in his '40 pickup with the '40 pickup hood and all liked up great.
