Intake manifold ID...

Anyone know what year this aluminum Ford intake would be?

Re: Intake manifold ID...

Looks like a '38 or '39 standard, but not sure about that round logo. Look on the underside for a date of manufacture. If it is Ford, it would be the imprint from a date tag tacked onto the mold.

Late 35 or 36, going by the 'high' generator mounting....

Tag on the underside is 6-3.... I want to use it on a '36 passenger car...

Re: Intake manifold ID...

That is a '35 intake. I have the identical intake on both early and late model year original '35 passenger cars. Definitely not '36, '38 or '39.
It would work fine on a '36 engine but would not be show correct...IF...recognized by judges who knew the difference.

Re: Intake manifold ID...

JM35 is correct. '36 intake is similar, but is larger without indentations in the center area under the carburetor

Re: Intake manifold ID...

Thanks guys. I am just concerned about the generator mounted fan being in the right location. Don't have the engine mounted yet to check clearance...

Re: Intake manifold ID...

The bolt to mount the generator would be at 3". the later engines 37-39 the bolt to mount gen plate would be 2".

These pictures may help in identifying some of the early Ford V8 aluminum intakes. I guess if they were cleaner, bead blasted, and pictures taken with better lighting it might be easier to see the differences.

My bad. John is right. Everyone is right but me. So ashamed. :( I'll be in the closet if you need me. :o With the light off.

I have an aluminum manifold with an S in a circle. Any ideas on that?

Re: Intake manifold ID...

An old standard motor products manifold. Have lots of those in n.o.s. box's.

John,

There's one more late '34/early '35 intake manifold shown below. It's just like a typical '35 except it has a high rise fuel pump stand mounting surface like the smooth 40-5520-B manifold, also shown. The part number cast in the bottom of the manifold is 40-5520-B2 (a number at the end of suffix indicating an additional design/source).

Re: Intake manifold ID...

David, thanks for posting this picture of another version of late '34/early '35 intake manifold. The '34/early'35 in the picture I posted here is exactly like the one you show on the left. I have never seen one like you show on the right with the higher mount for fuel pump/breather stand. After seeing the post by Walt Dupont on his '35 engine build I wanted to come back to this post to look at pictures again.
