New Tires...going just a little crazy... My friend's 30 Fordor needs new tires...the ones on her are circa 1970's.
This is a driving car, not a show car, and I'm helping locate tires. We need 19", at least 4 tires, and 4 new tubes, this much i know. I'm looking at a catalog showing Universal blackwall tires. But the amount of tire related items are dizzying. Someone said we could make rim liners from the old tubes...yes, no, maybe ?? Can the metal stems and dust covers be re-used? In a perfect world what can be re-used, what must be replaced, what can go either way?? Thanks for the assist. ET |
Re: New Tires...going just a little crazy... The metal stems can be reused as well as the tubes if you want to reuse them. Some new tubes are worse than the old ones. The rim liners are inexpensive. Summit has good pricing and shipping costs.

Re: New Tires...going just a little crazy... I use duct tape for rim liners-

Re: New Tires...going just a little crazy... As long as the wheel spokes are welded you don't really need the liners. They do not protrude inside the wheel.

Re: New Tires...going just a little crazy... The liners come at a low price. If the rims have any internal rust pits they can save you a flat.

Re: New Tires...going just a little crazy... I second looking at Summit Racing.
Ordered our tires from them. Zero cost shipping and no tax. Had them delivered 48 hours later! Gil. NoCal |
Re: New Tires...going just a little crazy... Being the new guy on here i wasnt sure how y'all felt about throwing out company names...but Summit Racing is who the guys in the local club put me onto.
The rims on my 56 Farmall were pretty rusty, and after replacing the front tires and tubes i had to change a flat due to rust on the inside of the rim cutting the tube...so on 2nd thought maybe liners are a good investment. As of now it looks like 4 universal tires, 4 tubes, and 4 liners, and we're off to the races...so to speak. Thanks for the help guys. ET |

Re: New Tires...going just a little crazy... Good Morning all...Those Lucus $99 tires, at least the ones that I purchased were made in Viet Nam, according to the side of the tire. I have been running them for about three years and about 3000 miles and they seem better than the tires that were on the car before. They seem like good value for the money spent! Lots of tires and lots of choices...Ernie in Arizona

Re: New Tires...going just a little crazy... hello guys; so the Lucas tire is better than the Coker Universal? I don't see the Lucas Tire on Summit Racing's site...maybe i need to look elsewhere??

Re: New Tires...going just a little crazy... I got my Lucas Oplympic Tires at Performance Plus Tire. They mounted and balanced them at their store but they ship also. Been on the car for ~ 4 years. No problems with flat spots.https://www.performanceplustire.com/...ts:475-500-19/
I was looking at the Lucas Nokia also https://www.performanceplustire.com/...que:ts:550-19/ |

Re: New Tires...going just a little crazy... I find the Lucas tires from Vietnam to be a great value. They run true, need no balancing, and I have never felt a flat spot. I'm in socal so maybe if I were in a cold climate I might feel temporary flat spots.

Duke36, if the Lucas and the Coker are similar nylon, then the only difference is the price, correct ?? If price is the only difference, then Summit has free shipping and a $50 rebate on $500 purchase, so they seem to be the best deal. If you are saying the Lucas tire is better please explain why.
