gas tank 1933 pickup
 

Hey Barners - looking for advise on replacing the gas tank on my 33 pickup. It is stock Model B. Very nice rust free clean truck. Restored vehicle but no history on work done. Obviously they painted the outside of the tank and ran a new copper line, but inside is dirty. Truck died and found the line was plugged. Blew thru it with compressed air. Drained the 9 gallons in the tank and it was rust colored and large particles deposited on the cheese cloth on the funnel. Who makes a stock replacement? Thanks.

Have a radiator shop treat it with muriatic acid (swimming pool acid) and have them then clean and coat with a good alch. resistant lining.

Shop around and buy a new tank. You'll be glad you did. Check with Tanks Inc. On e-Bay there are new tanks for your pickup from $250-$350. Would probably cost that much to fix your old tank if you could find a shop that would do it. A new tank has not been compromised by rust. JMHO but a new tank is money well spent.

Just understand - NO sealer on the filler threads- the lead rings do the sealing. Newc

And, the new tank will most likely not accept your 33 gas gauge sending unit. Myself, I would clean the original if its not rusted to death

I did what JimTN did with my '34 gas tank. I use a "glass bowel" fuel pump to "have a filter" from tank to carb.

I have been a believer in sediment bowls most of my life, but in truth they let alot of fine particles pass thru. One of my model A's has some minor rust issues. This car gets a lot of miles, even in winter. About every three months it would run crappy, so I would just take the top off the carb and blow it all out. there was very fine silt in the bowl always, an easy job on an A. So then, i put on an inline filter, one I had in stock. It was one of those glass things that you can unscrew the ends and clean the fine screen inside. Better, but still very fine stuff in the carb bowl. Now, a paper inline filter and no trouble in 2 years. I do blow all the crud out backwards on every oil change though

The time involved with running it to and from a radiator shop and then more maintenance is not what I need. Want a one and done go on with life fix. TJ and I are on the same page. This looks like a treat just to get the tank out and not going to do it a second time. My question was what vendor had the closest match to what I have. Mine is smooth on the bottom and the ones I have seen to replace it have ribs. And the top holes?

Im in the same situation, with a 41 tudor , my thinking is that a new tanks aren’t always going to be available. So im going to buy new , searching for the best deal .

buy a new one I put one in my 34 2 years ago from tanks the fit was good the price was good

Check with Michael Driskell at 3rd Gen Automotive. I'll bet he can get a new tank for you.

You can use a 1935-37 Pickup tank in the 33-34 as well as 34 victoria. They accept a electric sending unit but a adapter is available to adapt your original sending unit. On these I would only use a drake tank. We stock and sell them and have had zero issues.

Google Moyer fuel tank renew located in Greensburg Pa. They’ve done a couple tanks for me. They do great work .

I got mine from Bob Drake in 2005. The victoria style tank fits 33-34 pickups.

Thanks all -but the tank was not my issue. Simply some foreign matter in the tank. Looks like someone used a can with smutz in it. Tank was restored with the truck and is clean.

I just replaced my 41s tank . After shopping around , Bob Drake was the cheapest and the manufacturer, $17 ground shipping across the country , arrived in 5 days undammaged and just finished installing . Excellent product, so far .
My old tank was well past its date .
I also replaced the fuel line , cleaned and checked fuel pump and carb . Remember to get the filler neck hose .

I replaced the tank in my 48 with a Tank's repro unit. It fit perfectly but I was disappointed in the fact that they do not come with a drain plug in the bottom. I think that would come in handy with old cars/trucks that sit for extended periods.

Mine had a drain plug but did require a $30 riser to use the original KS sender .
