Interestingly, There is a metal 3D printer manufacturer here southwest Virginia. the machines are huge compared to plastic 3D printers. One of the uses considered is producing modern engine blocks. The metal printer can allow for different metals to be printed in the same part, such as an aluminum block with steel cylinder walls.
