Which intake to clear generator?

I'm hotrodding a '49 Merc for my '46 pickup. I'd like to run a dual carb intake, but which one will clear the generator? I can't offset mount the gen because the fan attaches to it. Thanks in advance!

Run an Edelbrock Slingshot . . . great manifold for a 2-carb street setup. One of the best - period.

I'm not getting why you can't off set the gen. On my brothers 53 we run a Fenton duce with the gen off set. It's a sweet running little car. You don't mess with the fan at all. Tim

Any "regular dual" intake, early or late, will allow the stock generator location. What intake are you using now, early or late?

Photos would help.

Yes a photo would help .Not trying to be insulting, If your fan attaches to the slide mount like the original 46 they sell the offset for right or left side that accommodates the fan mount. Same thing for the narrow belt configuration that came later. Tim

No pics yet because the engine is disassembled and still on the engine stand. I'm beginning to accumulate parts and want to know my options.

Re: Which intake to clear generator?

Sometimes I take an old generator, take the guts out of it, shorten the middle case to about 3/4" long and make a "shortie idler" for the fan. I take the stock armature, push the plates/windings off of it and then shorten it on my lathe to fit the short case and machine the backend of the shortened shaft to run inside the rear plate bearing. I make sure that I use the stock front and end plates - so there are two bearings to support the shaft.

It mounts in the stock location and solves the fan issue. Then, you can mount the generator off to the side.
