Pressure Test Plate Patterns/Drawings

Does anyone have the drawings or files for, say, a 59a style head gasket and water pump? I'm not wanting to make gaskets, I may have access to a water jet and would like to maybe have some pressure testing plates cut out. I don't have access to good drawing software any longer....

Can you use a head gasket & water pump gasket for a pattern?

Several ways to do that.
1- Get some used or new gaskets for patterns.

2- Rub trace the areas to paper. Make sure the paper is fastened tight so it
doesn't move during rubbing.

3- Try some of the free drawing programs available for download.
I have not used this one but it looks like it might work.

While you are machining the head plate you can install holes for installing dowel pins to locate heads.

Pete, where is the best general location for the pins?

Hi J, the best position we've found is just outside the 2 end head bolts, we use SBC timing cover dowel pins (.250"). One or two will hit water so we seal the pins just as a precaution even though the press-fit won't allow a leak.

We use our honing plate as the template to locate the holes. We drill the block holes with a letter "D" drill and the head and gasket holes .250".

Began doing this procedure about 20 years or so back!

Thanks, Gary in N.Y.

P.S. Wishing all here a very Happy New Year!

I do them similar to Gary but down in the corners. It is not critical.
