Drake 1939 Deluxe-1940 Radiator I have noticed Drake has in the recent past advertised a new split core radiator for 1940 Fords. Has anyone used one? Has he even made them?
|
Re: Drake 1939 Deluxe-1940 Radiator We have received many inquiries about the new stock style Radiators. The project has been a demanding one. It may seem peculiar, but modern manufacturing is not always able to reproduce some of Henry Ford's original details and designs. Too much of the original old-style manufacturing know-how has been lost in the past 70 years.
After a heck of a lot of work, research and investment in old-style manufacturing approaches, the Radiators are nearly complete and will be available this Spring. Look for them in late May - early June. We think you are going to like them! |
Re: Drake 1939 Deluxe-1940 Radiator A much needed part.

Re: Drake 1939 Deluxe-1940 Radiator Drake's repo will cost the same as recore an original split core.

Modene cores were used - one of the original suppliers to Ford in '39 - '40. |
Re: Drake 1939 Deluxe-1940 Radiator I would be shocked if Drake could sell their radiators for anywhere near $490. My Brassworks 33 radiator was close to a $1,000.

Re: Drake 1939 Deluxe-1940 Radiator According to Drake's newsletter the new radiator will be $850 when it is available.

From a lot of experience with his other "perfect reproductions", I'd want to witness a radiator close up and personal prior to passing judgement on the quality or lack thereof. |
Re: Drake 1939 Deluxe-1940 Radiator Only time will tell. I have been trying to order a brown fan belt from them for nearly 5 years. Seems as though it was never in stock to start with.

Re: Drake 1939 Deluxe-1940 Radiator Where is the Drake radiator made? Is the fins per inch count and capacity the same as stock? I would prefer to have one even better than stock.
|
Re: Drake 1939 Deluxe-1940 Radiator I think you are better off with Brassworks. For $100 more you can get a 4 row with 10 fins per inch.
And you can skip the split design at no extra charge. Made in USA too. |
Re: Drake 1939 Deluxe-1940 Radiator Everybody I've known who has bought from Brassworks has been impressed with the quality and service they deliver . . . it is where I'll have my custom 34 radiator done.

Re: Drake 1939 Deluxe-1940 Radiator This thread is actually over three years old and Sadly I STILL have not made the time to install the NEW drake radiator in my 1940.
I have used brassworks "New" radiators in the past and if you are not doing a point judged show car they are great! |

Re: Drake 1939 Deluxe-1940 Radiator While I can not attest to the 1940's on the earlier radiators they sell the side straps are not original appearing. That could be a different story on the 1940's and maybe they have designed them different since the last time I used them (5 years ago).
I have used a 1932, 1934, and a 1936 radiator from them. |
