Query: How to remove/replace fuel pump valves? 2 Attachment(s)
Ford Barn,
I am (attempting to) rebuild a '34 pickup fuel pump. The stock fuel pump internal valves (numbered 9352 on the included diagram) show they are supposed to be held in by a mounting plate (9361) and two screws (26466-S). However, the fuel pump I have, presumably aftermarket, does not have any of these parts and each valve appears to be threaded into the casting (see photo). Questions: 1) What tool do I use to remove these valves from my pump's casting? 2) Do the rebuild kits available supply threaded replacement valves for my casting or are they similar to the stock pumps? 3) If they are available for my casting, where do I purchase them? Thank you, Dan |
Re: Query: How to remove/replace fuel pump valves? Renner's Corner might be able to help you. I'm thinking it's an aftermarket pump. Any markings??

Re: Query: How to remove/replace fuel pump valves? The valves may not be threaded but could be just pressed in.
A manufacturing cost saving design change. |
Re: Query: How to remove/replace fuel pump valves? Some of these pumps are not rebuildable.

Re: Query: How to remove/replace fuel pump valves? Think CharlieNy does pumps. Not sure myself the availability of check valves, I thought they were not. Maybe Charlie can add.

Re: Query: How to remove/replace fuel pump valves? IMHO that is a non rebuildable pump. I get a lot them in my shop for rebuild and
discard the top and reuse the base. I install a vintage made in the USA 'back in the day' top with replaceable valves. Charlie ny |
Re: Query: How to remove/replace fuel pump valves? Usually the top is marked "AC" for a rebuildable unit.

Re: Query: How to remove/replace fuel pump valves? Terry's got it.......if you find an AC those are the best, especially quality threads and
nice concentric ferrule seats. However if you uncover a pump with H, BC or B those are good rebuildables......usually. AC is the primo. I have an ample stock of rebuildable pump cores plus I build pumps once in a while too. Charlie ny |
Re: Query: How to remove/replace fuel pump valves? interesting. back in 2005 when I was putting my roadster back on the road I rebuilt the carbs, fuel pump and older mallory distributor. it had a pumps similar to pictured with press in check valves. the local flathead builder had a supply of check valves. swapped em out and never thought twice about it.

Re: Query: How to remove/replace fuel pump valves? If I built the pump for myself I'd do that...providing of course I found a source for press fit valves. The lions share of my pumps go within and without the contiguous 48 states
however. Charlie ny |
Re: Query: How to remove/replace fuel pump valves? All,
Thanks for info. My pump says "Made in USA" but has no other markings on the outside. There are letter/number combos on the inside (presumably a casting numbers) but no manufacturer marks. I guess I'll have to get another pump. Dan |
Re: Query: How to remove/replace fuel pump valves? dont buy a new one, look for an original core
